Choosing the Right Personal Care Products
Choosing the Right Personal Care Products
Your skin is your largest organ, and the intimate areas are the most absorbent parts of it. Choosing the right lubricants, oils, and washes is a matter of health, not just preference.
Lubricants: Water vs. Silicone vs. Oil
- Water-Based: The safest bet. Compatible with all toys and condoms. Easy to clean up, but may dry out faster.
- Silicone-Based: Long-lasting and silky. Great for water play (shower sex). Warning: Do not use with silicone toys as it can melt them.
- Oil-Based: Natural oils (like coconut) are popular but can degrade latex condoms and disturb vaginal pH. Use with caution.
pH Balance Matters
The vagina has a specific acidic pH (3.8-4.5). Regular soaps are too alkaline and can cause yeast infections or BV. Look for "pH-balanced" washes specifically designed for intimate use.
Ingredients to Avoid
Steer clear of parabens, glycerin (if you are prone to yeast infections), and synthetic fragrances. Natural and hypoallergenic options are always safer for sensitive tissues.
